Some Thoughts on Dashes

A few Thoughts on Dashes A few Thoughts on Dashes A few Thoughts on Dashes By Maeve Maddox A peruser ponders about the utilization of runs to supplant colons: Increasingly more I see runs (of different sorts) used to accomplish the work you state that the colon ought to do: present a word, expression, provision, rundown, or citation after a total sentence. Is either adequate? I can’t discover a case of a scramble used to present a citation, yet its utilization instead of a colon to present a word, expression, proviso, or rundown is normal: â€Å"Nonetheless,† he included, â€Å"just having these accounts won't be sufficient† to make any authoritative decisions about the reason for the accident a procedure that could take weeks, if not months.† Presently students’ needs are foreseen by a little armed force of administration experts emotional well-being advocates, understudy life dignitaries and so forth. Coming toward the finish of a sentence thusly, the utilization of a scramble isn't as jostling to me as its inexorably famous use to supplant commas or brackets inside a sentence: The study’s creators conjectured that material increases made through early horticultural achievement an intermediary for riches gave littler gatherings of related men the regenerative advantage for ages. Boko Haram has enlarged its endeavors from catching outsiders who can be delivered off for boatloads of money to focusing on mass quantities of young ladies and kids who canâ be put to different employments. Commas or brackets would do fine and dandy in every model. The decision to supplant commas or brackets with a scramble ought to be made with an away from of the impact wanted. Logical data implied for perusers who may require help with an idea can go in enclosure: The study’s creators estimated that material additions made through early farming achievement (an intermediary for riches) gave littler gatherings of related men the conceptive high ground for ages. Data pertinent to the sentence, however of optional significance can go between commas: Boko Haram has broadened its endeavors from catching outsiders, who can be emancipated off for heaps of cash, to focusing on mass quantities of young ladies and kids who canâ be put to different employments. Runs are proper when the object is to alarm the peruser with a sudden interference that gives a fringe thought: His etch was one of the weapons utilized not that he could support that, poor individual and no uncertainty you will need to ask him inquiries. The scramble is an enticing accentuation mark that can be utilized to change the tone of a sentence. Runs resemble the sudden harmonies in The Surprise Symphony: they jolt the peruser into alertness. They are best when not abused. Need to improve your English shortly a day? Get a membership and begin getting our composing tips and activities every day! Continue learning! Meursault was offered coffee witch he accepted and began to crave a cigarette but pondered if it was acceptable in the circumstances of his mother death and eventually decided it didnt matter and smoked. He dozed off shortly after and awoken in the morning just in time for the vigil. Man y of his mothers friends were poured into the room and mourned while Meursault stays indifferent through the vigil and eventually dosing off once again. Before the funeral, he meets with the director once again. The director tells Meursault that old man named Thomas Perez, who had grown very close to Meursaults mother, will be attending the funeral service. The funeral procession heads for the small local village, but Perez has difficulty keeping up and eventually faints from the sun. After the funeral Meursault reluctantly goes homes home to his modest apartment in Algiers. The next day, Meursault awakes and thinks theres no better way to spend the day but the beach for a swim. During the meal Raymond tells how he beat up his now ex-girlfriend after he believed that she had been cheating on him and using him for his money. As a result, he got into a fight with her brothe r. Raymond now decides hes not done with ex-girlfriend wants to torment her, but he needs Meursault to write a letter to attract her back to him. Meursault agrees and writes the letter that night. The following Saturday, Marie visits Meursault at his apartment. She asks Meursault if he loves her, and he replies that it didnt mean anything to him but probably not. The two then hear shouting coming from Raymonds apartment. They go out into the apartment landing and watch as Raymond begins to slap his ex-girlfriend. Marie tells Meursault to go get policeman, but he says no and reasoning behind it is because he doesnt like policeman. Eventually one shows up slaps Raymond and says that he will be summoned to the police station for beating up his ex-girlfriend. After Raymond asks Meursault to testify for him saying that his ex-girlfriend cheated on him and Meursault agrees to help him. That night, Raymond runs into Salamano, who weeps that his dog has run away. Marie once again visits Meursault and asks if he wants to marry her. He replies indifferently but says that they can get married if she wants to and that he didnt care. The next Sunday Meursault, Marie, and Raymond go to a beach house owned by one of Raymonds friends named Masson. They swim in the ocean and then have lunch. That afternoon, Masson, Raymond, and Meursault run into two Arabs on the beach, one of them happens to be the brother of Raymonds ex-girlfriend. A fight breaks out and Raymond is slashed across his arm and face. After tending to his wounds, Raymond returns to the beach with Meursault. They find the Arabs at the spring. Raymond contemplates getting back at them by shooting them with his gun, but Meursault calms him down and takes the gun away. Later that day Meursault returns to the spring to cool off. The sun begins to beat on him causing him to get overwhelmed and begins to walk back at a faster pace. he runs in to Raymond ex-girlfriends brother laying in the sha de. Getting closer to the Arab the man draws his blade one again toward Meursault. Meursault draw Raymonds gun and shoots him. While the man laying on the ground shot, he shoots him another 4 times. Meursault is later arrested and thrown in jail. Meursault is later appointed a lawyer to represent him after making no deliberation to get one. During the meeting with his newly appointed lawyer he his informed that the police have been appearing into his personal life. He begins to question him how he felt during his mothers funeral and how he felt during the shooting. Meursault replies that he felt indifferent on both occasions. The lawyer is revolted by Meursault answers and leaves him in his cell. Meursault is taken to the courthouse early on the morning of his trial. Spectators and members of the press fill the courtroom. The trial begins with the day of the murder then hastily to an examination of Meursaults character. Mainly what was focused on his reaction to his mothers death. The director and several other people who attended the vigil and the funeral were called to testify against him. they all attest to Meursaults lack of emotion. Marie testifies that the day after his mo thers funeral she and Meursault went on a date and saw a movie. During his summary the following day, the prosecutor calls Meursault a monster and says that his lack of morality and feeling threatens all of society. Meursault is found guilty and is sentenced to death by guillotine. Meursault returns to prison to await his execution. He begins to struggle to come to terms of his fate. He thinks of escaping and he dreams of filing a successful legal appeal. One day the chaplain comes to visit Meursaults after many tries. He urges Meursault to turn to God, but Meursault refuses. the chaplain cannot believe that Meursault does not believe in faith and the afterlife. Meursault suddenly becomes infuriated and grabs the chaplain and starts to scream at him. He asserts that he is correct in believing in a worthless, purely physical world. Meursault begins to truly embraces the idea that human existence holds no greater meaning. He abandons all hope for the future and accepts the gentle indifference of the world. This acceptance makes Meursault feel happy. Taking a closer look at Camuss novel the main character Meursault comes off as a nihilism. This is because of the way Meursault is portrayed as a person who devoid of feeling any type of loss or sadness and is distant with the world around him. Life and death to Meursault has no meaning. one the ways he portrays this is his trip to Marengo. The trip to his mothers funeral seemed more of inconvenience for him than a time of mourning. He also declined twice to see his mother in the casket. When the caretaker questions Meursault on why he would not like to see her he simply replies I dont know. He also seemed not to care much for tradition or religious beliefs by drinking coffee and smoking near his mothers casket after concluding that it did not matter. During the vigil he also displays this by not feeling any type of sadness or mourning when all his mothers friends were at mourning and carelessly dozed off. After the funeral he was reluctant to go back home in his modest apartment and awoke the next day as if nothing really happened and was back to his normal routine. Meursault doesnt immediately everyone around him. There are some people who seem to be interested in him case and point Marie Cardona and his neighbor Raymond. They both find his careless and distant nature inviting. This is because it makes him easy to talk to because of his lack judgement toward people. This is also revealed when Raymond ask Meursault to write him a letter to lure his ex-girlfriend to Raymond to teach her a lesson. Meursault doesnt bat an eye when asked and doesnt think of the morality of what he and Raymond are doing. He also doesnt feel any type of affection toward a person. He displays this with Marie when asked if he loved her and when asked if he would marry her. Both times he replied with he was indifferent about it and that it didnt matter.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Only when Meursault is begins to feel any type of worth in life is when he is finally convicted of murder and sentence to death. because of his lacking emotion displayed in court and described by witnesses. In his cell he begins to ponder and dream about escaping his fate of death. In this instance he decides to give himself a sense of self-worth after he puts the chaplain to tears and which brings him peace and embraces his death. This brings me to the meaning of the Albert Camus The Stranger. Camus wants people to learn to focus on what makes life worth living and what it has to offer. Why waste time looking for the meaning of life when you can find happiness in what you do. Meursault distance himself and devoid himself of emotion because his thought of life and death being truly meaning less and in turn is what brought him to his fate. This brings out Camuss existentialist views on the world and in attempt to persuade people to have an existentialist approach to things and in hopes of stopping the nihilist trend in his time.

Academic Writing Assessment Benefits Employers

Academic Writing Assessment Benefits EmployersWriting assessments have grown in importance since the great depression of the 1930s and in today's economy the importance of good academic writing has never been greater. In particular, the assessment to aid an employer in assessing an employee's performance, and the assessment of student writing as a general practice. Not only does this mean that academic writing assessment is increasingly vital to the modern economy, but also writing assessment is a vitally important feature of a successful career. The decision to undertake an academic assessment is a complicated one and involves a decision that can have huge implications in the workplace. Whether you are a lecturer or headteacher the assessment to help to guide your career will help your employer to understand your teaching and writing abilities. Students also benefit from academic writing assessment, and whether or not you are taking the GCSE or the equivalent, whether you are aiming to work in the professions, a wide range of employers will benefit from academic writing assessment to help them to understand your writing. So what can writing assessment help to achieve? Ideally the assessment should help your employer to understand your teaching, be it a subject such as English literature or a subject such as accounting or human resources. Employers need to understand the work of their staff, as the study of academic writing helps to establish whether the staff are prepared to meet their educational goals. For a headteacher, academic writing assessment can help in preparing your staff to succeed in your profession. The examination helps to give your staff a basis for understanding their own roles and responsibilities, and help your staff to develop. Also, by using the examination you can better understand the needs of your own students, and help them better understand their roles in the classroom. One of the most important aspects of an assessment is that of finding out whether the assessment is reflecting your own capabilities. If the assessment is reflecting your ability to write then you will be better able to develop and learn to write, and this is a key feature of the assessment. For example, if the assessment is showing that your academic writing assessment is inadequate then this can have serious consequences for your career.Writing assessment also serves to boost the performance of students. Most students aspire to achieve academic success and enjoy writing, but very few achieve it. Writing assessment helps students to be more aware of what they should be writing and helps them to develop their own writing skills, so they can achieve more.Writing assessment also helps to boost the workplace, and enables a wider range of employers to benefit from it. More employers are able to see if their staff are effectively writing and can better understand the writing requirements of their own workforce. Writing assessment also encourages staff to read more carefully and apply the study and writing skills in other areas of their own work.

Blog on Management and Organization

Question: Discuss about the Blog on Management and Organization. Answer: Introduction: Henry Ford started his company The Ford Motor Company to manufacture cars very cheaply in partnership with Alexander Malcomson. His ideas were put to effect with the help of Fredrick Taylor who helped in the mass production in a cost-effective manner. The management principles taken up by Taylor were that he assigned people the tasks according to their capabilities. The careful arrangement of the parts that were produced and the final arrangement of the car played an important part for the growth of the company. Taylor made it a point that the smaller parts of the car could be moved from one place to another while the main body or the larger parts need to be stationary at one place (Witzel and Warner 2015). This enhanced the productivity level, as more cars were being able to be manufactured at a lesser time. The introduction of assembly line also helped the company to achieve the desired target, where people were stationed at one particular place to perform the desired task and the car would be pulled from one station to the next with the help of a rope. This helped in the mass production of the cars. Time constraints were also reduced as each car would require one and a half hour to get assembled. Employees were also well paid a t $5 a day, which ensured their honest efforts towards the company. To maintain discipline in the factory, trade unions were not entertained as they would hinder production, which did not give any job security to the employees (Vidal 2015). The idea of breaking down long tasks into short forms and assigning them to individuals was the key to success in the information technology company with which I was associated in the recent past, Accenture. The work culture had no progress, as there was a dearth of responsibilities in the organization. This resulted in the minimum output that the organization was facing. The time saving principle had to be in practice, which would have helped the organization to achieve its target and give benefits to the employees. The company gave 100% job security to its employees because they knew that to achieve high productivity levels, the employees should be taken care of nicely. In the modern era, workers of Europe, Australia or America would not adopt the principles of Taylor in its traditional form. The changes in the technology and the automation process have certainly established a new theory globally. Principles of Taylor need to be changed according to the changing environment to suit appropriately in the work culture. The call centres can adopt some of the principles. The work culture in a call centre is divided into different sectors according to the capabilities of the employees who specialize in those fields. The employees are ascertained the task according to the roles they play in the organization (Sinha and Gabriel 2016). These rules can be applied in some industries globally. For a start-up company, division of labor, incentives to employees are some of the positive impacts. Since these principles were developed almost a century age, their effects are long lasting and can be changed accordingly to suit the work culture in the organization (Janoski and Lepadatu 2014). Linear Programming Linear programming helps in finding out various inequalities relating to a situation and finding the next best alternative that can be applied under that given condition. An example of this can be labor management where the production levels can be maximized to achieve more profits by determining the best conditions using linear programming. It can be used as a checking tool to find out the preciseness of the decision that was taken by the managerial body (Fernandes-Blanco, Arroyo and Alguacil 2014). To ensure that the cattle has a good amount of food which needs to have some specific amount of protein and fat. The rancher needs to consider two brands to get the best results but at the same time reducing cost. Through the application of linear programming, the rancher can find out the best cost options and prefer which brand to take or to mix both brands at certain quantities to achieve the desired output. After the summation, has been done, it is seen that on mixing 2.4 units of Bra nd X and 1.2 units of Brand Y, the optimum value regarding cost can be achieved. The idea of comparing both products in order to maximize the profit has to be done for the company to benefit in the near future. The organization maintained a good labor management team for better output before I left Accenture. The CEO when interviewed had stated that the decision of the managerial body was to always maximize the profit while maintaining minimum cost. The advantages of using linear programming in an organization is that the problem can be solved in a scientific manner keeping in mind all the possible alternatives that are available which in turn helps in re-evaluation of the resources available which even affects the decision-making body. There is a lot of flexibility in gathering information about the problem and seeing that the factors which helps in production process is used in the optimum way. The decision-making body of an organization needs to keep these in mind for the smooth running of the organization (Angelelli et al. 2016). The limitations of linear programming are that to understand the objective in a mathematical form is an uphill task. If the objective function is determined then the forms of constraints such as social, financial constraints are difficult to identify. There is also a possibility that the function and the constraints may not be linear to each other. In order to find out the related values of the co-efficient, the determinants of the constraints that needs to be taken into account is a major issue (Kuhn 2014). The organization needs to make sure that the constraints are visible and needs to take those into account. The production output can only be maximized by taking a few inputs in the linear programming (Paris 2015). The production output can be increased by varying the factors of production. The alternatives need to be productive enough in order to change the current method under the linear programming method. The startup companies are very much required to follow linear programming as it will help them to choose the best factors of production in the market at the best possible price. Camping Desert and Mountains Essay Example

Camping: Desert and Mountains Essay Camping: Mountains and Desert A few times a year, I like to go camping. Sometimes I go to the mountains in Kern County, California, whereas, other times I go to the desert in Brawley, California. Camping in the mountains, although similar in atmosphere, terrain and activities, has many more benefits than camping in the desert. There is nothing like taking a deep breath of cool, crisp mountain air, taking that narrow winding road that never seems to end until at last reaching the very spot that I’ve been dreaming about. The sun is starting to peak through the trees as I start the tedious task of setting up camp. I stop for a moment and realize I can hear laughter, bushes brushing up against the pant legs of hikers, fallen branches snapping under foot and the various ground critters that run free. I look around and see cities of tents packed tightly together under the soaring redwood trees, large rocks scattered near and far in promise of great climbing adventures for young children and shallow streams that invite even the most inexperienced fishermen. Night falls, and I hear the trees moving, making music in the sky, coyotes howling to the moon and the streams moving swiftly as they are racing to the river. Out of the corner of my eye I catch a glimpse of flickering orange light that seems to dance in the wind, only to realize it is the camp fire at the heart of each tent city. I can see happiness painted across each of the smiling faces that sit and stare as others puff their checks out and cross their eyes. Oh yes, they are imitating a monkey in the game of charades. As I sit in my chair I can feel my eyes beginning to close, and all I can do is smile because there is a promise that tomorrow will hold new adventures. The season has changed, and the excitement has begun to sink in, the bikes are loaded and the RV is packed. The three hour drive could not pass fast enough. I open the window, and the dry, arid smell of the desert, unlike the crisp mountain air, has filled my mind with memories of trips past. I can see off in the black sea of nothingness, a red light flashing with promise that I am are near. The road beneath starts to jostle the RV to and fro, as the pavement disappears and the dirt road begins. A bright light shines from up above, guiding my way along the old rail tracks until the wash road sign shines so bright that I am left squinting as I prepare to turn. Driving so cautiously not to find any soft sand, I finally arrive to my flat camp ground just below the smallest windblown dunes. The sun starts to peak from what seems to be the world’s edge; shining ever so brightly upon the very attraction I’ve come for, untouched sand dunes, with not a single tree to distract my eye. Off in the distance I can hear a faint sound of what seems to be a motorcycle. As the noise becomes louder I can hear a pinging that fills my body with a rush of excitement. I grab my helmet and jumped on my bike, turned the ignition and with a thunderous roar my bike has come to life. The wind upon my skin sends chills down my spine as I maneuver through the small hills. I look ahead to see mountainous towers of soft sand that dance with the wind. The speechless curve of each peak’s edge shifts in the breeze. I look out across the sea of sand to see tiny silver flickers climbing higher on the face of a sand dune. Several people are gathered near the bottom cheering and clapping. I ride with the wind pushing at my back, down the steep hillside. As I draw near the crowd, I realize that there are people everywhere; drinking, laughing and having a good time. That’s when my attention is thrown at the hill before me; these are the sand drags. My heart begins to race with anticipation that one’s bike will fall. When I’ve had enough, I make the long trek back to camp. Upon nightfall, all I can hear are echoing bikes and wood popping from the fire pits. The air has begun to fill with sand from the bikes riding so close to camp, making it difficult to breathe. RV’s are packed so tightly that I can no longer see the night stars that once shone so bright. Everyone around me is beginning to celebrate, and the crowds are starting to become lively. Children must head off to bed as it is starting to become late. The world around me is becoming a little overwhelming with the noise and lights; the time has come to head into the RV and try to fall asleep because I must wake up early the next day to try to catch a good ride through the now choppy sand. As I close my eyes, the noise seems to get louder, and the flickering camp fires begin to become bright with a promise of a loud sleepless night ahead. Although I enjoy camping in the mountains and the desert, the soft, crisp mountain breeze offers a promise of a relaxing and breath taking experience. With the hiking, the trees and the friendly atmosphere, the mountains have much more to offer.

Photo Essay Essays - Anthropology, Marriage, Wedding, Film

Photo Essay Essays - Anthropology, Marriage, Wedding, Film Photo Essay My aunt and uncles wedding was beyond amazing. Not just because my mother, her 7 brothers and sister. helped their baby brother with the wedding by catering for it. Not just because we were releived to say the least that my uncle was settleing down with a wife and not a hsuband. And defenitely not just because I get to have another weekend of cheating my diet. But because this wedding, this big event, brought our family and friends through all walks of life closer together, it made our bond as a family stronger. This event was obviously very important to all our family members. It even made our distant relative, uncle edu, attend. I was happy at the wedding because for me, it means we get to add another family in our clan of Manzanos. Plus this wedding gave me a chance to eat all my uncles best dishes, having a family full of professional chefs could be the main reason for my weight, it could be but it isnt. if making a bigger family tree is what it takes for my uncles to cook again then a big family we shall have.this wedding gave me another aunt whom I already love. And that thought alone will forever be stuck in my mind.

Gun control in my community and nationally Research Proposal

Gun control in my community and nationally - Research Proposal Example According to Guns and Crime 2012, the policies and laws regarding gun control are different within states in the USA making it hard to streamline the problem nationally. Nationally, the provisions under the second amendment are also broad meaning that it has contributed to the acceptance of the gun culture in America. The film and video gaming industries in America is also another avenue that contributes to this societal problem as this industry has painted gun violence as a heritage for the American population. With this essay will delve into some of the national and local resources that exist concerning gun control both nationally and locally with an aim on their effectiveness and failure. As it has emerged, gun ownership serves as a portion of the gun control issue, but it is a matter of relevance in combating gun violence. Ideally, many federal states do not allow the legal sale of guns to under age children, which is policy that cuts across many jurisdictions. On the contrary, the fourteenth amendment is also a fundamental area that allows citizens to acquire licensed firearms for self-protection making it possible for innocent civilians to take charge of their safety. Therefore, this has helped promote equality for the minority groups residing in America because America has developed into a multicultural society. This means that gun ownership does not have restriction to a particular race as it used to be in the colonial days. On the other hand, the policies that exist regarding gun ownership also create a loophole making them subject to review. For instance, the creation of the background checks system in 1993 was one whose intention was to ensure that those that acquire guns are law-abiding citizens and not prior offenders (Guns and Crime 2012). However, proponents argue that this check system should also include those that have prior substance abuse problems and those implicated in domestic

Ethics in Professional Societies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Ethics in Professional Societies - Essay Example In any professional sphere, it is relevant to follow ethical principles and not only to work. Ethical principles have a different power in comparison with laws. Thus, laws can regulate or not, support or not some ethical principles. For example, from the perspective of medical ethics, abortion is unethical deed. It is a life interruption. In accordance with laws in many countries abortion is a legal issue. Nevertheless, Civil Rights Law in America propagates ethical and legal commitment. In one way or another, but the modern society requires ethical regulations in any profession. Still, the conditions of underdeveloped professional ethics among engineers cannot be denied. The fact that medical ethics is more developed cannot be denied as well. Still, the necessity of ethical principle following in these both spheres is an inarguable fact. Ethical principle relevance in the medical professional society usually concerns how medicals should ethically behave when they deal with the issue s concerning life and death. The most known ethical code of behavior for medicals is the Oath of Hippocrates. Currently, the American Medical Association has introduced bioethics. It covers such issues as pharmacy, nursing, social work and so on. Therefore, we can claim that for the American Medical Association ethical principles following in all spheres and aspects of medicine are of crucial importance1. It goes another way in the professional society of engineers. ... eering and Technology, a specific nature of ethics in engineering encompasses the following issues: â€Å"public safety; bribery and fraud; environmental protection; fairness; honesty in research and testing conflicts of interest†2. The necessity to develop code of ethics for engineers in accordance with the specific nature of the field of their activity can be explained by the following facts: the decisions made by engineers can cause a negative impact on public’s health; moral implications are of high importance for engineers. In such a way, it is necessary to support legally the development of ethical principles for engineers: the latter would think critically and independently about different moral issues; moral thinking would be incorporated in the professional engineering practice. In accordance with the research project â€Å"Ethics in Engineering†: â€Å"ethical problems in engineering are often complex and involve conflicting ethical principles. Enginee rs must be able to intelligently resolve these conflicts and reach a defensible decision†3. Therefore, engineers are not considered in the modern society as technicians, they are intelligent individuals with the ability to morally and ethically behave and think. Ethical principles of engineering in comparison with other professions There are numerous complexities within the professional field of engineers. These professionals are not self-employed and usually work for large corporations. Moreover, there is a lack of respect paid to engineers in comparison with medicals 4and they also do not have such high payments as physicians or lawyers do. Engineering professional society is not as well developed as the professional society of medicals (AMA) or as the professional association of lawyers (ABA)5. Therefore,

Dream My Dream Essay Example for Free

Dream My Dream Essay Without dream, there can be no courage; without courage, there can be no action. What Wim Wenders said indicates the importance of the dream, which no one can deny. Most people’s dream is not stable and changes with the time going by, but the critical point is that they do have a dream. I’m the person with a dream. I once romantically dreamed to be an excellent diplomat at early age and later, I was looking forward to teaching undergraduates in a historical university. But now, I’m considering starting my business after finishing my school in 3 years. There is no doubt that the rapid growth of economy and the fast development of electronic commerce have brought not only the pressure of the heated competition, but also valuable opportunities for entrepreneurs who start with empty hand. This is exactly the source of my dream. Every dream deserves action and a try; otherwise it is only a daydream. A month ago, after overcoming various difficulties, I managed to open up an on-lion shop with the help of a friend. The on-shop whose address is huo1314. taobao. com is now on regular business. This shop mainly sells fashion clothes of both ladies and gentlemen, daily necessaries together with accessories of electronic devices. Nevertheless, no dream can be fulfilled overnight without any struggling. I know it clearly that my on-lion shop is just a touchstone and that there is still a long way full of challenges ahead of me. What an outstanding entrepreneur needs is not only talents, but more importantly, a strong personality. It is always the determined will that helps entrepreneurs go though all tough times and finally makes them stand out among others. This is what I’m lacking for. There is no denying that in the world only a few people achieve their dreams at last. Most folks give up their dream when they are to face the hardness or when their desire changes with the time going by. I have dropped many dreams like them since my childhood, but this time, never will I do it again. Maybe all the efforts are ruined and nothing is gained at last, but when looking back, without any regret, I can at least proudly say I once do had a dream and I do have tried my best.

Critical Analysis of The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins

Critical Analysis of The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s â€Å"The Yellow Wallpaper† is a detailed account of the author’s battle with depression and mental illness. Gilman’s state of mental illness and delusion is portrayed in this narrative essay. Through her account of this debilitating illness, the reader is able to relate her behavior and thoughts to that of an insane patient in an asylum. She exhibits the same type of thought processes and behaviors that are characteristic of this kind of person. In addition, she is constantly treated by those surrounding her as if she were actually in some form of mental hospital. Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s state of depression began after she gave birth to her one and only daughter. She was diagnosed and given a prescription of â€Å"rest† in order to cure her disease (Kennedy 469). Gilman was taken away to a secluded home by her husband in order to obtain such â€Å"rest†. However, as it becomes evident to the reader, this â€Å"rest† actually plays a role in furthering Gilman’s mental state. The reader watches as Gilman’s condition worsens as a result of this treatment. It is through her writing and documenting that the reader is able to relate her to a mentally insane being (Kennedy 469). As is evident to the reader, Gilman is suffering from some sort of mental disorder and/or illness. As is defined by one doctor, disease of the mind is â€Å"any medically recognized disorder that may render a defendant incapable of understanding the nature and quality of his or her actions or knowing that those actions were wrong†(Rogers 221). It is obvious through her actions and thoughts that Gilman does suffer from a disease of... ...t she does in fact resemble an institutionalized human being. Gilman obviously does not know how to make mature judgments for herself. She is not in a stable frame of mind, and thus portrays someone in an insane asylum. Food Trend 2013

Techno, the nation's leading foddering research and consulting firm, brings together the best Judgments of its consultants and editors to peer ahead to food trends that may significantly impact the restaurant industry in 2013. These expert insights are based on site visits evaluating the restaurant scene in cities across the country as well as interviews and surveys of operators, chefs and consumers, backed up by qualitative data from its extensiveDigital Resource Library and quantitative data from its vast Monitored database. Some of these developments are mainstream trends among major players, others are edgy urban movements that may or may not spread to the wider American public, and some are in the process of evolving from leading-edge to mainstream. 1. Vegetables take their star turn. As more diners discover the Joys of occasional meatless meals, the flirtation with vegetarian fare evolves into flexibility fascination with actual vegetables. That meaner not only innovative salads but creative reservations of roasted or steamed veggies, even the assertive ones like carrots, kale or Brussels sprouts. Vegetables at the center of the plate are welcomed by diners†who continue to seek fresh, local, healthful fare†and operators squeezed by rising costs for proteins. 2. Great grains. Recognized as nutrition powerhouses† packed with protein as well as texture and full, rich taste†grains are also playing star roles on trendy menus. Dishes like pollute, couscous or bulge are central to some of today's hottest ethnic cuisines. And a number of grains† quinoa, amaranth, little, wild rice, corn, oats and buckwheat†do not contain gluten, so they're being nudged to the fore as part of the movement to gluten-free eating. 3. Chicken surprise. Yes, chicken is ubiquitous thanks to its always-reasonable price and remarkable versatility, but now it's actually trendy as well. New quick-service and fast-casual fried-chicken concepts are popping up , offering Southern or spicy takes on a classic. And now that Latin-accented marinated chicken has established a niche, African pert-peer chicken may be next. . Snacking nation. Habits of around-the- lock eating, the street-food/food-truck craze, consumers' demand for flexible portions and prices, and operators' need to move beyond price-cutting on core menu items all combine to make snack fare a key trend. Taps, mezzo and upscale bar bites in full-service restaurants are matched by flavor novelties in limited-service restaurants, from Spicy Chicken Incites at McDonald's and Chicken Littlest at KEF to mini corn dogs at Jack in the Box and cheesecake bites at SONIC. 5. More is more.On the other hand, there's an opposite value-as-volume movement. Look for more eels like Pizza Hut's Big Dinner Box (two pizzas with multiple sides) or Olive Garden's Dinner Today & Dinner Tomorrow (a dine-in meal plus a to-go meal), as well as multi-course feasts for two, four or more†even whole-hog pig roasts. 6. Traditional and contemporary diners and delis for inspiration. We'll see a proliferation of premium diner- and deli-inspired meaty sandwiches, full-flavored soups, even pickles†from traditional dill cues to pickled red onion. . Noodle-shop noodles. Ramee done right is a long way from dorm fare; it's nutritious, subtle, satisfying and redolent of exotic Far East street markets. Look for Ramee, don, sobs, cellophane and rice noodles to show up in hearty layered bowls, fragrant soups and even mixed-texture salads, not only in a burgeoning number of big-city noodle shops but in seafood and varied-menu restaurants as well. 8. South America†the next frontier.Just as diners who love Asian fare have explored beyond Chinese to develop a taste for Thai and Vietnamese, those who favor Mexican are now looking south†all the way to Brazil, Argentina and Peru. We'll see mainstreaming of South American-style grilled meats, chummier sauce, achieve, South American-As ian suasion seafood dishes and iconic drinks, from Brazier's chaplain to Peer's Pico sour. 9. Fast casual goes globe-trotting. Success in the exploding fast-casual sector is no longer limited to bakery cafà ©Ã‚ ©s and Mexican concepts.Build-your-own-better-burger chains and gourmet brick-oven pizza restaurants have been on the rise for some time, but now we're also seeing more ethnic foods and flavors†from American barbecue to Southeast Asian soups and sandwiches to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fare. 10. Restaurants thirsty for differentiation turn to beverages. Trends include fresh fruit (especially tropical fruit) beverages; natural energy drinks; housemate sodas; cocktails made with candy-like flavored vodkas; microdensitometer liquors that promote drinking locally; regional craft brews starring in beer-and-food pairings; and the rise of hard ciders.December 4, 2012 wry. The French Pastry School of Kennedy-King Co llege in Chicago is expanding for those thinking about going Pro, as well as some who are simply serious about getting really good at it. 4. The Fix Is In. PRI-Fixed, That Is. No choice† is becoming the new choice when it comes to dining out.The European-style PRI-fixed (fixed menu) restaurant policy is making its way to American shores. Fine dining establishments offer a limited range of set choices, and are holding firm on no substitutions. It's trickling down to the casual dining segment, too. Chains are bundling a selection of appetizer-entry ©e- dessert three-course meals for two–for a value price. 4 5. The Rise of the Supermarket Concierge. Grocery stores have executive chefs, offer cooking classes, and have specialists who can direct you to the best cheese, best meats, and best baked goods. We began to see it a few years ago when we predicted the rise in butchers, and it's gone beyond. Cooking classes are everywhere – sponsored by grocery stores, private caterers and restaurants of all sorts. The supermarket concierge is the next logical step in the progression. (Photo of Chef Chadwick of Why-Eve) 6. Brunch Becomes the New Fourth Meal. The late-morning meal that usurps breakfast and dinner is becoming the hot new meal occasion. You can find eateries that feature karaoke during brunch, or offer a free-flowing Bloody Mary Bar.We found a bowling alley that hosts a brunch, serving such choices as fried chicken, deuterium pancakes and cinnamon toast pizza. So stay up late, then sleep in and enjoy the new fourth meal. 7. Seasonal for All Seasons. Traditional seasons are getting stretched out, with people making things like pumpkin muffins in the summer. Then there's the continuation of the canning trend (which we spotlighted last ear), that lets folks enjoy the bounty of summer all winter long. 8. Cooking too Tea. Earl Grey and other tea flavors are starting to be used in cooking. The consumption of tea in general is still growing, and now it's moving beyond beverage onto the ingredient list for some menu items. For one thing, teas have great names and can help spice up a menu in many ways. Look for tea rubs, the way there are coffee and cocoa rubs. Tea†¦ It's not Just for drinking anymore. 9. Comfort Food with an Ethnic Accent.Yes, we still love our meatloaf, roast chicken and Mac ; cheese. Com Novo. 26, 2012 by Bob Grummet Top Dining Trends 2013: A New Perspective Two food cost-friendly options make this top 10 trends list worth a look. 6. American artisans save you a trip to Europe. â€Å"For years, budding food artisans have sprung up in the U.S. , crafting everything from booze to charcuterie,† SIR declares. â€Å"And as their craze becomes a lifestyle, you can count on every major city to proudly sport local, artisan food destin ations in 2013. â€Å"7. Small plates for me only. Have customers had enough of pass-turnaround dining? SIR tells us small plates meant for sharing will be replaced with smaller, singular servings of meat, veggies or starches for a truly customized dining experience. 8. Savory fruit. Look for fruit used with savory flavors, incorporated as a touch in appetizer, soups and meat dishes. Chefs are fermenting, pickling, drying, dehydrating, salting, grilling, frying and generally manipulating fruit more to get new flavors out of what we are used to eating raw,† says SIR culinary team member and Top Chef Season 5 winner Hoses Rosenberg. 9. No diner left behind. From gluten-free to vegan, more and more restaurants will offer all-inclusive menus and services to accommodate all eaters. â€Å"Gone are the days associate culinary director Aziza Jackson's. â€Å"Chefs who are cutting edge realize this and are planning ahead in the kitchen to have the flexibility to meet the varied requ ests. 10. Popcorn is the snack of 2013. Sweet or savory, the all-time favorite (and healthy) snack will pop up everywhere†in ice cream, as croutons, as a bar snack and more. SIR points to examples from restaurants such as Linger in Denver, which serves complimentary popcorn with seasonings like Cancan Mole and Madras Curry and Dill instead of a bread basket; and Halcyon in Charlotte, NC, which offers salted caramel popcorn croutons atop a North Carolina winter greens salad served with boiled peanut vinaigrette. From a food cost perspective, what restaurant wouldn't want to Jump all over this one?We don't know how many of these trends will make the leap into the mainstream this year. But we've already seen a couple of them gain a foothold on a number of restaurant menus, and we wouldn't be surprised if a few more don't make their presence felt in 2013. Beclouded, CO-based ad agency/food brand consultancy Sterling's Group took a horrors approach to developing its list of sass's top food trends. First, it queried celebrity chefs, product developers and other food world luminaries about what they saw on the horizon. Then the agency's in-house culinary team drew on those findings to compile its list. Here are the 10 dining trends Sterling-Rice Group (SIR) thinks will move from the cutting edge into the mainstream in 2013. 1. Sour gets its day. The American dining scene will explore additional parts of the flavor spectrum beyond sweet, salty and fatty, says SIR. â€Å"Next year we'll have a plethora of tart, acidic ND bitter flavors to choose from as menus feature flavors like fermented cherry juice, varietals vinegars, even sour beer. † 2. Chefs watch your weight. Healthful dining is a perennial entrant on most trend lists, but will we actually see healthful dining manifest itself on menus this year? Butter, bacon, and cream have been chefs' best friends since the beginning of time,† notes SIR. â€Å"But in 2013, chefs will be working quietly beh ind the scenes to make your dishes better for you with ingredients like brown rice, high-fiber grains and vitamin-rich veggie broths. † 3. Asian infiltrates American comfort food. The spicy and fresh flavors of Thailand, Vietnam and Korea take comfort food in a new direction, and this could be the year more restaurant operators position these cuisines as such. â€Å"Expect to walk into a classic American diner and see options like Vietnamese chicken sandwiches, Scratch mayo and Korean-glazed pork ribs. 4. Veggies take over the plate. No longer prepared as Just a side or salad, vegetables will get their chance to star as the main dish this year. SIR points to entrees like the Kohlrabi Burgeoning at AS in San Francisco and the Cauliflower T-bone at Superb Snack Bar in L. A. We know restaurant owners will love he food cost on items like these. 5. Kids' menus grow up. One of these years, a forecast like Grog's†that Mac and cheese and chicken nuggets will take a backseat to kid-friendly versions of adult dining options† is bound to come true. Is 2013 that year? Drinking Your Dinner and Bulge With Your Burger 1 . Drink Your Dinner Is it a food or a drink? Marketers in 2013 will continue to experiment with putting traditionally solid foods into liquid form, while pitching drinks as replacements for solid meals. The moves come as consumers put a premium on convenience. Kellogg Co. Recently rolled out â€Å"Breakfast to Go† shakes ailed as providing a â€Å"nutritious and filling breakfast that helps give consumers the energy they need to get through the busy morning, even if they don't have time to sit at the breakfast table. Meanwhile, PepsiCo is moving forward with plans to put snacks in beverage form. The company has a â€Å"whole range of products in the pipeline that are value-added products that can be snacks made into beverages,† CEO Indri Onion said recently at Beverage Digested Future Smarts conference, according to Bennett. Com. â€Å"A way to grow the beverage business is to take foods and drinking them,† she added. 2. Heat's On Meat Is meat going out of style? So consumers will increasingly look for energy from so- called â€Å"new proteins,† says Phil Element, who runs supermarkets. Com. â€Å"A major shift is anticipated in the nation's protein food supply away from meat-based proteins and shifting to meatless proteins like eggs, nut butters, tofu, beards, legumes, with an increase in awareness and consumption of vegetarian and vegan meals,† Mr†¦ Element reported recently as part of his â€Å"Top 10 Food Trend Predictions or 2013. Life Kitchen, the brainchild of former McDonald's global chief operating officer and president Mike Roberts, was started in California and offers healthful dishes that include local, organic, healthful fare; the chain also has grand expansion plans. British chain Prà ªt A Manger, which specializes in fresh items that have no preservatives or chemicals, continues to expand in the U.
